The Sudbury Catholic District School Board has carried on the proud tradition of quality faith based education for Sudbury youth since 1969, with further roots back to the earliest days of schooling in our city over 100 years ago. We currently operate 4 Secondary Schools, 1 Adult Education Centre and 20 Elementary Schools , including an all-girls academy available after Grade 6 that is unique in the region. Each of our schools enjoys a vibrant relationship with one or more of 25 Catholic parishes in the Sudbury area, truly making our schools "Schools to Believe In".

Catholic education is a process through which the community of the school, the home and the Church develops within its students a way of living which embodies the life of Jesus Christ. Catholic schools are mandated by this community to carry out the following mission:

TO PROVIDE
a quality education which integrates faith with culture so that every aspect of the curriculum is taught in light of the Gospel and the Gospel is expressed in terms of the life witness of all those associated with Catholic Education.

TO CREATE
a faith community which recognizes the interdependence of the members of the Catholic educational community - students, parents, priests, teachers, trustees and administrators - in the transmission of the beliefs and values of the community.

TO REINFORCE
and uphold the rights of parents, their beliefs and values, with regard to the education of their children. Co-operation of the home, the school and the Church is essential in imparting Christian attitudes.

TO DEVELOP
the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical talents of each student in an atmosphere of faith; to educate a student for life, not merely to impart information and skills. Individual talents, skills and abilities are cultivated in such a manner as to instill a sense of personal responsibility to the Creator and to society.

On January 5th, 1998 the Trinity Cross was approved as the official logo of the newly minted Sudbury Catholic District School Board. New boards were created across the province after government restructuring redrew school board boundaries and separated the administration of English and French Catholic Education.

Simple in design but rich in symbolism, the three intertwined crosses of the Trinity Cross

  • represent our belief in the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three persons in one God

  • demonstrate how the vertical bars of the cross stands for Home, School and Parish. All three become one in Catholic Education.

  • demonstrate how each horizontal bar represents the basis of our beliefs in Catholic Education. This part comes from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians Chapter 13 where it is shown that the keys to life in Christ are Faith, Hope and Love.

The cross has always been symbolic of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior and at the root of our Catholic faith. Our logo represents the intertwining of home, school and parish in a spirit of faith, hope and love centred on Christ our Savior.
