St.
Albert Gets New Digs
by SCDSB Chairperson Paula Peroni
September 2005 -On September 6, 2005, the St. Albert Adult Learning Centre opened its doors’ to mark their 13th school year serving adult students of the City of Greater Sudbury and surrounding area. Thirteen years of helping adults reach their goals of continuing their education and enhancing their employment opportunities with a secondary school diploma in hand-thirteen years of assisting individuals in improving their reading, writing, math and computer skills to make a change for the better. This year, however, witnessed some big changes for the students and staff of St. Albert as they open the doors to their new digs at 504 St. Raphael Street. The former location on Eyre Street in Sudbury’s West End had been the mainstay of Adult Education for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board for the past twelve years. The Board renewed its commitment to adult students and their children in relocating the programs offered on Eyre streets, including the daycare services offered by Jubilee Heritage family resources. With the new location comes a renewed vigor to help adults reach the goals they have set for themselves. At St. Albert the student always comes first. The staff of St. Albert offers the individual attention needed by adults to help them be successful. Working in smaller classroom settings allows the teachers the opportunity to get to know the student and then offer them the help they need. Whether it’s basic literacy, high school credit courses, English as a second language or computer skills, the staff is ready to help. The St. Albert Adult Learning Centre will continue to offer correspondence
credit courses for those that cannot attend a day school program. All
courses are ministry approved and marked by a qualified teacher. As part
of its commitment to adult learning, a new program will be launched this
fall. “E-Learning” will be offered to students between the
ages of 18 and 21. This program will provide students with web-based high
school credit courses in addition to the courses they can already take
in the classroom. “E-Learning” will compliment the small classroom
setting and expand the range of opportunities that students enjoy to successfully
complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. St. Albert is equipped
with an entirely new inventory of computers to ensure the best opportunities
for their students. This means that every single computer in the school
is brand new and waiting to help expand the students’ (young or
old), knowledge of technology. Together with the help of the classroom
teacher, “E-Learning” will be an exciting addition to the
school’s programs. St. Albert Adult Learning Centre has helped thousands
of adult students expand their learning and improve their employment opportunities.
As the staff look forward to working in their new facility, they invite
you to call or drop into their St. Raphael Street location. Just look
for the big sign on the front of the school, “The St. Albert Adult
Learning Centre -same great school in a new location!”
