Our schools incorporate
Catholic beliefs throughout all subject areas of the curriculum.
Both individually and as members of interdependent teams,
students are called to examine and evaluate their own contributions
to physical, political, ethical, socioeconomic and ecological
systems with an informed moral conscience as they learn to
integrate faith with life.
Religion programs from Kindergarten to Grade 10 work with
the 'Born in the Spirit' Catechetical series developed by
the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. 'Born in the
Spirit' plays an important role as teachers and school community
parishes work to help our elementary school children prepare
for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist
and Confirmation. Grade eleven students are introduced to
World Religions, and Grade twelve students are challenged
with the understanding of moral issues.
Masses are held at schools and community parishes for students
and staff throughout the year, and prayer is an important
part of student and staff life. Special liturgical season
celebrations such as Advent, Lent and Easter are a particular
focus. There are opportunities year round for staff to continue
to develop their own faith through Religious Education courses,
a special board wide mass of remembrance, prayer services,
our board choir and a professional development day designated
to focus on the strengthening of faith. That special 'Faith
Day' is facilitated by a variety of speakers both lay and
religious. In addition, staff are informed about any special
events that are occurring in any of the parishes in the city
that would provide an opportunity for personal faith development.
We invite you to visit the 'Way to Go' and Community sections
of our website for a selection of news items that frequently
focus on the accomplishments of our students and staff as
they demonstrate their spirt and living faith, and truly 'Make
a Difference':
