Creating an Individual Learning Plan for Technology Integration Skills

The Ontario Ministry of Education will eventually develop guidelines and strategies for instructional technology integration skill development. Presently, there are a variety of excellent options available for teachers at the SCDSB. Each year, there are a number of different technology related workshops, demonstrations and inservices conducted by Curriculum Services and IMS. There are also a number of accredited and other self-directed online courses and resources available and others are in development.

As with virtually all educational PD programs, it is up to each teacher to select appropriate activities. Creating an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is a great way to organize your PD activities. If you not sure what you need to reach your technology integration goals, here are a couple of strategies to help create your own ILP:

The SCDSB Performance Indicator Profile was created in 2001, and is aligned with the Board's vision for teaching and learning with technology. It illustrates expectations on how technology should be used, modeled and promoted in our classrooms.

The SCDSB ICT Profiler Evaluation Rubric is a useful tool in assessing your personal requirements for creating an ILP. Many of the skills in the rubric are subject or grade level specific. Some are considered to be essential skills, while others are not. Fill out the form and it will be forwarded to the CITI so that we may better assist you with your professional development needs.

In addition to the SCDSB profiler, My ePlan is an easy-to-use online assessment tool from Computer Strategies, LLC. The assessment takes about 20 minutes to complete, and you receive your own Individual Learning Plan based on your input. You may want to print out a copy of this plan and show it to your Principal or the Curriculum Department for guidance or other advice.
