The teachers received the Big Brothers’ prestigious ‘Northern Moose‘ award for their work in their youth mentoring company, “School Ties.” Battigelli and Blackwell have trained over 40 teachers and 300 peer mediators using Native traditional teachings of the Grandfathers and the Medicine Wheel believing that youth working with youth is the key to future communication among individuals.
