Please Note: We have several makes and models of projectors in out various schools. Not every machine has their connector ports in the same location. On this tutorial page, we will be covering the basics required for most applications. The shape and functonality of each connection is the same on every machine.
For the purposes of this tutorial please make reference to the labelled diagram below to see the shape of the connection being referred to.
Label Connection How to connect...A1 Video in from the computer. Follow the monitor cord until you find where it connects to the back of the computer. Replace the monitor cable with the matching cable for the projector. Once the projector has been powered up, video image should appear on the screen. If no image appears, push your "source button" on the top of the projector to select the proper video input. A2 Video out the computer. (This does not appear on all machines.) If your projector has one of these connections, you can plug the computer monitor into this port. It will allow you to view your computer image on both the projection screen and the computer monitor. B Video This port is a standard RCA jack and is used to connect your projector to the video out jack on the back of a VCR. It accepts the video signal from the VCR (Not the audio). C1 Audio (left and right) These two ports will connect to the RCA (audio out) ports on the back of a VCR or with the appropriate adapter, to the speaker connection on the back of your computer. If your VCR is not stereo (Mono) you would connect the wires to the the port marked MONO on your projector. **** See Below. C2 Audio (Headphone type connection) This port accepts a connector identical to the ones you find on headphones for a walkman or similar devices. The single wire runs from this port to the speaker connection on the back of your computer or the headphone conection of any laptop computer. **** See Below. D S-Video Port This port is relatively new. You find this type of connection on the backs of DVD players, satellite receivers and some of the newer VCRs. If you are using such a device, the connection port will be on the back and match the one found on your video projector. E Power Switch While this is not a connector port, it is important to follow certain guidelines. Once the switch has been turned on you will need to press a second switch which will activate the bulb. The machine will warm up for a few seconds and then begin displaying video. When you are done, turned of the second switch but not this one (E). Allow the fan to run for several minutes to allow the bulb to cool off. Once the bulb has cooled, you may turn of switch E. F Power Cord Plug-in This is an obvious connection. Plug your power cord in here before you turn on the video projector. Not all plugs are shaped like this. !!!! See Below.
**** It is my recommendation that you use an alternate method such as a portable stereo (with a "line in" connection) or a portable P.A. system to broadcast the sound. The speaker on the Video Projector is suitable for smaller meatings but not for larger audiences. An amplified sound source plugged into your computer, vcr or dvd will be far more effective.!!!! Please check your cords and plugs before you start to set up the video projector. If you are loaning out your projector to another school, Check the cords with the contact there before it leaves your building and after it is returned. At least one school has already encountered problems.
