DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION: MAKING MODELS

Courtesy: Jasmine, Grade 5, St. Franicis

There are a number of ways that you can construct a model. You may choose to work with clay, cardboard or even pasta! Remember to give some indication of scale on your model. Include a short list of real materials that would be needed to construct your building.

Think about the following as you design and construct your structure:

From a design perspective:

          1. What is the purpose for your structure, and how does it tie-in with your resolution statement?
          2. Does it have an environmental or geographical tie-in?
          3. What are some interesting facts about your structure?

From a construction perspective:

1. What forces must this structure withstand?
2. How is it constructed to withstand these forces?
3. What materials will be used in its construction?
4. What are its dimensions?
5. What would it cost to build?
6. How long would it take to actually build the stucture?
